6 Tips to avoid blood sugar dips and spikes

Blood sugar swings can make people feel lethargic, faint and cause chronic mood swings. Blood sugar swings can also cause serious health problems that can affect vital organs. Here are some tips on how you can adjust your lifestyle and diet to control your blood sugar better.

Nuts – Nuts like almonds, walnuts, and pistachios have healthy fats that will slow the absorption of sugar. However, limit the number of nuts you consume to a small handful of nuts per day.

Whole Grains – Eat more oat bran, barley, and rye, which are high in fiber and contain beta-glucan. Fibers such as these will help to prevent sugar spikes and keep you full for longer. However, these whole grains are still carbohydrates and therefore can increase your blood sugar, so make sure you limit your intake.

Veg out – Vegetables like broccoli, cucumber, and carrots are nonstarchy and will give you essential vitamins and minerals, needed to prevent sugar surges.

Cinnamon – Cinnamon is said to stimulate the increase of insulin in the pancreas. However, this research still needs to be further analyzed. Therefore, adding some cinnamon to your food is a good way to add flavor and maybe gain some benefits.

Vinegar – Vinegar is said to slow the absorption of sugar by the body. Therefore, look at consuming a tablespoon of vinegar after each meal.

Avoid skipping your meals – Skipping meals will cause fluctuations in your blood sugar levels that can leave you feeling less than optimum.
